CHICAGO, Ill. (April 29, 2011) — Bellator Fighting Championships announced today that Bellator and Strikeforce alum Adam Schindler will compete in the promotion’s upcoming featherweight tournament. The eight man competition will span three events, with the opening round quarterfinals taking place at Bellator 46 from the Seminole Hard Rock in Hollywood, Florida on June 25th, LIVE on MTV2.

A native of West Virginia, the 28 year old Schindler began his MMA journey in 2007 after stepping away from the mat for almost a decade. The 2X West Virginia State Wrestling Champion entered the Air Force shortly after graduation, and put in nearly eight years of service time. Fast forward to 2011, where Schindler holds an impressive 9-1 record with six submissions to his credit, including a decision victory over Brian Melancon at Bellator 20.

Dropping down to featherweight for the first time in his career with a six fight win streak intact in the lightweight division, Schindler is riding high entering the Featherweight Sumer Series Tournament.

“I’m just ready to get in that cage and win,” said a confident Schindler. “This is the time where I take the step from everyone around me knowing how good I am, to everyone seeing how good I am all across the country. This is my chance to shine.”

The Bellator Summer Series Featherweight Tournament looks to be one of Bellator’s most competitive tournaments to date, with Season 2 Lightweight Tournament Winner Pat Curran recently announcing his intention to drop a weight class to enter the tournament, Sengoku veteran and Bellator 42 winner Ronnie Mann and Brazilian knockout artist Marlon Sandro as confirmed participants, with additional fighter announcements coming shortly.

“Adam was impressive at Bellator 20, and he makes a great addition to this stacked featherweight tournament,” said Bellator Chairman and CEO Bjorn Rebney. “Our Summer Series shows are going to be great, and I can’t wait to kick things off at the Seminole Hard Rock on June 25th.”
